How to improve the data transfer rate of hard disk

Hard disk is the main storage area of your system. When you are opening a file or playing a video, the response is depend on the performance of the hard disk. To get the best performance from your system, you have to improve the data transfer speed of hard disk. It all depends on the speed of the hard disk and data transfer rate.

Steps to improve data transfer rate

To improve the disk data transfer rate, you just need to follow the instruction given below:

The first and one of the most important steps is to turn off the disk compression. Disk compressions often slow down the response rate of hard disk. To disable disk compression simple open my computer then right click and select properties, go to tools window and disable disk compression by uncheck the option “compress this drive to save disk space”. Fragmentation of data in hard disk is a big problem because it scattered all the data around disk. So we recommend you to use defragmentation of hard disk on regular basis. To use this option right click on my computer then go to tools properties and select defragmentation. We also recommend you to perform defragmentation in every month.
There is one more option available to optimize the data transfer rate i.e. to enable write caching. Write caching improves the data transfer rate. To perform this operation just follows the instruction. You just have to right click on my computer and go to hardware properties, now after clicking on properties you will get a new window named as change settings, click it. Now you will get a new window of “change policies” in that window you can see an option box of optimize performance, just select this option and check “enable write caching” in the checkbox.

hard diskImprove data transfer rate on Windows & and Linux

In the newer versions of Windows and Linux, there are different options for optimization of data transfer rate of hard disk. These options are for solid state drives. Use Windows 7 and Linux, because they are TRIM enabled OS and maintain the performance of hard drives for a long time. Try to disable auto defragmenting, sometimes large amount of defragmentation also slow down the PC and affect the disk data transfer rate.  If you are using lots of disk space then we recommend you to free up at least 20 % space on hard disk. Most of the drives run on its peak when at least 20 % space is free. If you will give some space to breathe then the performance of the hard disk will automatically improve. In Windows Vista and 7 you can also schedule disk defragmentation to optimize the performance. Windows 7 also provide automatic disability of defragmentation in SSD disk drives. Higher number of defragmenting also wear down the SSD drives.
