Microsoft recently announced 33% reduction on Mac Office price

Microsoft has slashed the price of its Office for Mac 2011 suite by as much as 33% . Office for Mac 2011 has planned to launch it towards the end of last month and will be given heavy discount at several online and brick-and-mortar retailers starting on 25thof November. That is coincided with the Thanksgiving Day in the U.S. the deal will last until Monday that is 29th Nov.

The company is said to be focusing on three things with this new release: better compatibility across platforms, improved collaboration tools, and a more refined user interface. Not only will this suite include Outlook for Mac, which replaces Entourage as Office’s e-mail client. The new version of Office recently launched will also offer renewed support for Visual Basic, which was dropped in the 2008 version of the productivity suite.

According to the Mac business unit, compatibility means more than making sure that document, spreadsheets, and presentations created on one platform open and render correctly on the other. It has also been noticed that roughly three quarters of their Mac users use Windows at least occasionally and is working to make the new Office for the Mac morefunctionally compatible with the Windows edition.

MicrosoftThe new version of Office will incorporate all the document-collaboration features that will take advantage of Microsoft’s online storage features. Mac 2011 users, Mac office users will be able to share files and collaborate on documents with other Mac and Windows users via Microsoft’s SharePoint, sky drive, and Office Web Apps.

Microsoft did not hesitate to explain the features, which includes integration with several cloud-based services that Windows users can access from Office 2010. Some of them like the free Windows Live SkyDrive online storage service, SharePoint collaboration tools and Office Web Apps.

As a competitor, Amazon.com will also cut the price of Home & Student by $40, to $79 for the one-license version and $109 for the three-license package.

Other retailers, including Apple’s own stores, Best Buy, MacMall and Microsoft’s e-store, are also planning to chop off $20 from the list price of Home & Student as a step to increase its sale.

In Amazon’s software bestseller list, Office for Mac 2011 Home & Student held the No. 5 spot, where as the pricier Home & Business had the No. 7 spot.  The home and windows includes the same Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications as Home & Student, but with a twist, it adds the Outlook e-mail client to the mix. In the same package, Microsoft’s Windows-based Office 2010 Home & Student is placed in No. 1 position.
